Taking Steven Holl’s architectural framework as its point of departure, HEART will work towards establishing a strong international profile on the contemporary art scene. The Socle du Monde biennial and the other events staged by HEART aim to set a national as well as international agenda within museum and exhibition management.

JANNIS KOUNELLIS – LA LIBERTÁ O MORTE – FREEDOM OR DEATH – 09.09.09 – 10.01.10

HEART is officially opened with a retrospective show of works by the Italian artist Jannis Kounellis. The exhibition constitutes the first major presentation of Kounelli’s works in Scandinavia, and the artist will crate a number of new works for the exhibition. For more than forty years. Jannis Kounellis (b. 1936) has been an important figure within contemporary art. He played a key part in the Arte Povera movement of the 1960’s; a movement which represented a break with painting, fuelled by a desire to redefine the language of art. Using materials such as steel, coal, fabric, sacks, coffee, live animals, and people, Jannis Kounellis creates radical and highly original sculptures, performances, and installation.

HEART COLLECTION – 09.09.09 – 26.09.10

The HEART collection is shown arranged according to overall themes, providing perspectives in central developments with Danish and European art, particularly from 1960 onwards. The works are by artists such as Piero Manzoni, Paul Gadegaard, Knud Hvidberg, Svend Wiig Hansen, Bjørn Nørgaard, Dennis Oppenheim, Joseph Beuys, Lucio Fontana, and Mario Merz. The exhibition also shows important new acquisitions, including works by Jesper Just, John Kørner, and Troels Wörsel.    

INDIAN HIGHWAY – 30.01.10 – 24.05.10

A groundbreaking exhibition of Indian contemporary art featuring works by e.g. Shilpa Gupta, Sudodh Gupta, Jitish Kallat, and Nalini Malani. The exhibition encompasses art, video, photography, film, and performance art, reflecting on the role played by India as a significant actor within the world economy. Indian hightway is curated by Julia Peyton-Jones, Hans-Ulrich Obrist, and Gunnar B. Kvaran together with Stinna Tolf in collaboration with the Serpentine Gallery, London, and Astrup Fearnley Museum of Modern Art, Oslo, Norway.

SOCLE DU MONDE 2010 – THE WORLD IS MINE – 16.10.10 – 23.01.11

The Socle du Monde biennial for contemporary art focuses on collaboration between cutting-edge artists and the business community. The biennial takes its point of departure in Western culture and challenges faced by the West. Socle du Monde serves as a laboratory, a place for exploring the relationship between art and business when artistic freedom is complete.

THE PIERO MANZONI COLLECTION & SOCLE DU MONDE IN PROFRESS – 18.09.10 – 09.01.11

A celebration of the creator behind the work Socle du Monde; a new staging of all the works by Piero Manzoni owned by HEART. Numbering a total of 41 works, this is the world’s largest public collection of Manzoni’s art. The exhibition is shown concurrently with Socle du Monde in Progress – documenting the biennial process and the encounter of the business community and contemporary artists in the year 2010.
