Teko at Heart
When art and design meet TEKO and art have always been closely entwined. Right from the outset, when Aage Damgaard founded the shirt factory Angli, and later with the advent of the school itself, art has played a prominent part in the history of TEKO. It has made its presence felt in very concrete terns, as art presented on the school premises, and the form of ever closer co-operation with the museum. With the opening of HEART this collaboration enters a new, exiting ara. The first result of the partnership between HEART and TEKO is the very distinctive museum shop. Students from TEKO produce unique design objects for the shops, all of them bridging the spheres of art and design, thereby helping to reinforce the vibrant, living link between TEKO and HEART. Two students from the vocational line at TEKO, Jacob Thrane (25 years of age) and Safine Lykke (19 years of age) are in charge of everything from concept development through planning and project management to production of the finished products for the HEART shop. Their work forms part of the practical work experience scheduled as one element of their education. The products in the museum shop have a unique history and a distinct, special relationship with TEKO, HEART, and Birk. As part of this special relationship, only a limited number of each item is produced, and all items reflect the character of the school, the museum, and their surroundings. In so doing they create a unique narrative which points back to the very roots of TEKO and HEART, TEKO will provide the HEART shop with a range of special exceptional items such as jewelry, T-shirts, and unique items of clothing. All products are made from specially selected and unusual materials, making extensive use of recycling. This collaboration will be expanded in scope over time. For example, HEART will provide the backdrop for events, workshops, exhibitions of special project etc. HEART and TEKO will breathe life into the ideas of creating closer links between art and education.
